Minneapolis police investigating fatal overnight shooting that left teen dead

A 19-year-old man was fatally shot early Sunday morning in North Minneapolis, prompting an active investigation as police search for the gunman who fled the scene before officers arrived.

MINNEAPOLIS — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the early hours of July 20, leaving a 19-year-old man dead in North Minneapolis.

According to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara, officers from the Fourth Precinct responded to a report of gunfire near the intersection of Mississippi Drive North and Lyndale Avenue North at approximately 3:09 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered a young man suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. Despite administering life-saving measures, the victim tragically died at the scene.

The suspect had already fled prior to law enforcement’s arrival.

Investigation underway

The Minneapolis Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Forensic scientists processed the scene, and investigators are continuing to collect evidence and speak with potential witnesses.

“Investigators are working diligently to gather information and learn what happened,” Chief O’Hara stated. “Anyone who has information should reach out and provide that information. We are working to do everything we can to find justice for this victim and his family.”

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the victim’s identity as well as the official cause and manner of death in due course.
