‘Superman’ soars in first official trailer

1 min read

Look up! A new trailer for “Superman,” the cinematic launching pad for the new DC Universe (DCU), has just soared onto the internet.

Starring David Corenswet as the title character and Rachel Brosnahan as the reporter of Steel Lois Lane, “Superman” is Warner Bros. Discovery’s hopeful franchise reboot facing immense pressure to compete with Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The new trailer begins with an interview between Lois and Clark, where Clark personifies Superman. They discuss recent conversations about Superman’s involvement in ending a war and interfering in political affairs without the United States or any other government involved in the conflict in Boravia.

Brosnahan’s Lois doesn’t hold back. She delivers one of the most memorable Lois Lane conversations I’ve ever seen, leading to a heated debate between the two lovebirds that sets the tone for the entire film. The question lingers: what should the world do when there’s a Superman?

“Superman,” directed by James Gunn, offers a unique take on the legendary superhero. This marks the inaugural installment in the new DCU, under the chapter titled “Gods and Monsters.” The film centers around a younger Clark Kent as he embarks on a journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing in Smallville, Kansas.

While not an origin story, the movie explores Superman’s internal struggle to balance his dual identities and his role as a beacon of hope in a world that often dismisses kindness as outdated. The story draws inspiration from acclaimed comic series like All-Star Superman by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely, among other sources, aiming to capture the essence of the character’s legacy while introducing new elements to his mythos.

The film follows the animated critically acclaimed MAX series, “Creature Commandos,” and will be preced the second season of “Peacemaker.”

“Superman” also stars, Skyler Gisondo as photographer Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Nicholas Hoult as classic antagonist Lex Luthor, Neva Howell as Marhta Kent, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan “Pa” Kent, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, and Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe.

The cast also includes Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner and María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer.

“Superman” flies into theaters domestically on July 11, 2025.
