Nathan Fillion Joins DC Studios’ ‘Lanterns’

On March 31, Deadline reported that actor Nathan Fillion has officially joined the cast of the DC Studios live-action series “Lanterns,” which is slated to premiere on MAX sometime next year as filming and principal photography are well underway.   

Fillion will be reprising the role of Guy Gardner, who will make his first canonical DCU appearance in director James Gunn’s Superman, which is set to premiere later this summer in theaters on July 11th.  Other than that, no other details were noted by the trade. 

A brief synopsis for the series reads, “Lanterns” follows recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre)  and Lantern legend Hal Jordan(Kyle Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.” 

Kyle Chandler (“The Wolf of Wall Street”) will lead the cast as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre (“Rebel Ridge”) will play John Stewart. Fillion will join an ever-growing ensemble that also includes Kelly MacDonald as Kerry, Poorna Jagannathan as Zoe, Jasmine Cephas Jones as a young version of Bernadette (John Stewart’s mother), Nicole Ari Parker as Bernadette, Sherman Augustus as John Sr., and Jason Ritter as Billy Maccon. Ulrich Thomsen, will play the villainous Sinestro.

James Hawes (“Slow Horses,” “Penny Dreadful,” “The Mist,” “The Alienist,” “Snowpiercer”) will helm the first two episodes. The creative team also includes Emmy Award-winning Lost and Watchmen creator Damon Lindelof and comic book writer Tom King. Justin Britt-Gibson, Breannah Gibson, and Vanessa Baden Kelly are also on board.

“Lanterns” currently has no official release date.
