On April 1, Warner Bros. unveiled a new clip from the upcoming “Superman” film. The clip, according to the description, takes place after a pivotal moment from the trailer, where the Man of Steel falls to the snowy tundra, bloodied and beaten. Seeking refuge, he calls out to his loyal companion, Krypto, to return home. For those fortunate enough to attend CinemaCon, a brief glimpse of what transpires in the ensuing scene was also shown.
It has been confirmed that the footage will not be released online. However, it will be shown in front of Minecraft this weekend when the film debuts in theaters, which could potentially align with what Gunn and DC unveiled via social media.
In addition to the scene being highlighted during the presentation, Gunn welcomed his ensemble of Superman himself, David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor), and Co-CEO and producer Peter Safran to the stage. The group offered ample perspective along with a plethora of memories from the days of filming and various comments about the DC Studios theatrical experience.

However, THR publicly shared an initial breakdown from the clip: “Superman crashes into snow on the ground. He wheezes and bleeds. He whistles for Krypto. Krypto gleefully jumps all over him, causing more pain. Krypto tries to play. “Krypto, take me home,” Superman says. Krypto licks his face. Krypto runs circles around him before finally grabbing his cape with his mouth and dragging him across the snow. A fortress rises from the ground in an icy formation, and the pair go inside. Robots lift Superman and carry him. Superman thanks them; the robot states, “There is no need to thank us as we will not understand.” They examine him in a medical office. They blast him with sunlight, and Superman screams.”
It was reported that Gunn, while on stage and holding the mic, after the clip ended, confessed, “I cannot wait to share the film with all you guys and the rest of the world.” Gunn added, “We’re still in the throes of post-production.”
One key note was that Gunn confirmed he was initially offered to direct “Superman” back in 2018, but decided to make “The Suicide Squad” instead. Gunn would go on to share, “Back in 2018 I was first offered Superman and I was like ‘oh my god, that seems so cool … it seems hard, Gunn noted.” “And they said we also wanted you to do the Suicide Squad, and I took the easy way. It was an R-rated movie about a bunch of ragtag heroes.”
The filmmaker then progressed his thoughts by summarizing them: that at that moment, he didn’t know whether to take on the Man of Steel, who, to many, has been “perceived as old-fashioned.” Over time, the director became invigorated by the character relationships and the chance to have fun with such elements as pocket universes and even Superman’s pooch, Krypto, before coming to the realization one day that he wanted to do “a story that was utterly human, utterly fantastic,” being redirected into the foundation and identity of the latest DC reboot.

Regarding Krypto, Safran noted that the inspiration for the character was based on Gunn’s real-life dog Ozu, before Gunn clarified that Krypto’s real-life counterpart is far from ‘heroic.’ “Ozu is terrible to anyone who comes near him,” Gunn said.
Gunn then regaled the audience by recalling the moment of going to a shelter to rescue the canine: “He kind of looked like my old dog on crack.” He added, “I said, ‘That dog looks funny to me, and I like funny things.’”
Gunn reflected when taking Ozu home and seeing the dog chewing up his laptop and shoes, including leaping around the home and knocking over food. “I thought, ‘Oh, my God, what if this dog had superpowers? I’d be fucked,’” Gunn continued. “And I said, ‘Now I know what I’m going to do with Superman.’”
In my opinion, it’s clear that James Gunn and his newly crafted regime at DC Studios are methodically and systematically leaving the aporous weight on the elusive cape of the Man of Steel as general audiences will determine if the adventures of the DCU flourish with other projects such as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow being well into shooting, and their latest live-action adaptation, Lanterns, continues to fill out its cast and carry on principal photography ahead of the stacked 2026 slate for the DC comic theatrical branding. Now, all we can do is wait and see how the latest adaptation and variant of the big blue Boy Scout will shape up.

“Superman” stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as star-studded Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as photographer Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Nicholas Hoult as classic antagonist Lex Luthor, Neva Howell as Marhta Kent, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan “Pa” Kent, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, and Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe.
The cast also includes Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner and María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer.
“Superman” flies into theaters on July 11, 2025.
