In an exciting development for DC fans, HBO has announced that filming for the new series “Lanterns” has begun in Burbank, California.
The network has released a first-look photo featuring Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler in their roles as the iconic Green Lanterns, John Stewart and Hal Jordan. This upcoming TV show, produced by DC Studios and HBO, has generated big glowing green excitement and anticipation among DC fans who have been longing for a proper live-action retelling since 2011, and even earlier.
“We are thrilled to bring the Green Lanterns to life in a way that has never been done before,” James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, said. “Aaron and Kyle have truly embodied the essence of John Stewart and Hal Jordan, and we can’t wait for fans to see their incredible performances.”
The series promises to explore the rich lore of the Green Lantern Corps, delving into the characters’ origins, struggles, and heroic journeys.
“It’s an honor to step into the shoes of such an iconic character,” Aaron Pierre, known for his role in “Krypton” and “Mufasa,” said. “John Stewart’s story is one of resilience and courage, and I hope to do justice to his legacy.”
Kyle Chandler, celebrated for his work in “Friday Night Lights,” echoed similar sentiments about portraying Hal Jordan.
“Hal Jordan is a complex character with a rich history. I’m excited to explore his journey and bring his story to the screen,” Chandler remarked.
Titled “Lanterns,” this upcoming HBO series will follow two Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan and John Stewart, as they investigate a murder mystery on Earth. The show is described as a detective story in the style of “True Detective,” focusing on the cosmic police organization known as the Green Lantern Corps. The series will consist of eight episodes and is part of the new DC Universe being developed by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
The series will feature a stellar cast, including Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, Josh Brolin in a yet-to-be-revealed role, Jessica Henwick as Carol Ferris, and David Oyelowo as Sinestro.
