Jon Kent, formerly known as Superboy, is now called “Super Son.” DC Comic’s change comes ahead of the release of the new film directed by James Gunn, which is set to hit theaters later this year, and new Superman comic titles that will feature his time as Superboy in Smallville.

DC Comics made the decision to rebrand Jon Kent to “avoid confusion.”

“We want to ensure that there’s a clear distinction between Jon Kent and his father, Clark Kent,” DC said. “Introducing Jon as Super Son allows us to highlight his unique identity and journey.”

The name change has sparked a mix of praise and criticism among fans. Some have welcomed the move, viewing it as an opportunity for Jon to establish his own legacy.

Longtime fan Emily Carter said, “I think it’s great Jon is getting his own identity. It gives him a chance to shine on his own and not just be seen as Superman’s son.”

However, not everyone is pleased with this decision. Fan Alex Rodriguez admitted to Comics Basics, “I’m not a fan of this change. Jon Kent was already well-established as Superboy, and now we’re starting from scratch. It feels like a step backward.”

Nicole Maines, the former Dreamer actress from “Supergirl” and current comic book writer, is working on the new Secret Six series featuring Jon Kent. She stated that this could help the character grow.

“Becoming Super Son is a good thing for Jon Kent,” said Maines. “It gives him a chance to be his own person and explore new storylines.”

However, critics argue that the name change could confuse new readers and disrupt the continuity of Jon Kent’s character.

“It’s a risky move,” Comic historian Arthur S. Poe remarked. “Jon Kent was already a beloved character as Superboy, and now we’re asking fans to adjust to a new identity.”

What do you think of Jon Kent’s new moniker?
