ORLANDO, FL— MEGACON Orlando hosted a memorable Superman panel this past weekend, Feb. 8, 2025. Six former Superman actors celebrated the iconic character and paid tribute to the late Christopher Reeve.

The event featured a star-studded lineup, including Tyler Hoechlin (“Superman & Lois”), Brandon Routh (“Superman Returns”), Dean Cain (“Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman”), Tom Welling (“Smallville”), George Newbern (“Superman: The Animated Series”) and Tim Daly (“Justice League”). Superman actors shared their experiences, discussed the character’s evolution, and reflected on Reeve’s enduring legacy, widely regarded as one of the most influential portrayals of Superman.

During the event, Tyler Hoechlin expressed his admiration for Reeve and said, “Christopher Reeve set the gold standard for what it means to be Superman. His portrayal was not just about the superpowers but about the heart and humanity of the character. It’s an honor to follow in his footsteps.”

“It was always gonna be like Chris,” Brandon Routh added. “Even if it was some other version of that slightly altered Superman because I wasn’t playing Chris. I was playing the feeling, the love when you’re Superman. Reeve’s impact on the character is unparalleled, and his influence is felt in every portrayal that came after him.”

Fans were puzzled when Henry Cavill, the actor known for playing Superman in Zack Snyder films, was missing from a special panel at MEGACON Orlando. Many speculated that he was absent because of his departure from the role of David Corenswet. However, Tom Welling, who played Superman in “Smallville,” clarified that Cavill was busy filming a new project.

“Henry was filming Voltron in Australia,” Welling said on Instagram.

The panel also included a heartfelt moment where the actors collectively paid tribute to Reeve’s contributions to the Superman legacy. Dean Cain shared, “Christopher Reeve’s Superman was not just a hero on the screen, but also an inspiration off the screen. His courage and determination in the face of adversity continue to inspire us all.”

“It’s incredible to be part of this legacy and to celebrate the heroism and hope that Superman represents,” said Welling. “Thank you to all the fans for keeping the spirit of Superman alive.”
