A new Star Wars manga taking place during the sequel trilogy is set to be released this year.

According to an article on Screen Rant, “Star Wars: The Path of the Lightsaber” is written by Kenny Ruiz and will have a new ensemble of characters. Set between “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and “The Rise of Skywalker,” the manga will be centered on a character named Nioka, who is a young tinkerer and an aspiring Jedi who idolizes the legendary Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker.

In the manga, Nioka finds a lightsaber from the High Republic era in the ruins of a ship. And without a doubt, there are others that are looking for the weapon as well. The mange would be a bridge between the Sequel trilogy and the High Republic era.

The High Republic era, which takes place 200 years before “A New Hope,” was introduced by Charles Soule’s “Star Wars: The Light of the Jedi.” The era saw the golden age of the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Knights taking on the ruthless marauders known as the Nihil, who attacked and destroyed a ship called the Legacy Run while it was traveling at lightspeed.

In “The Last Jedi,” Luke heroically dies while using a Force projection of himself to fight against his nephew, Kylo Ren, to give his sister, Leia Organa, and the Resistance enough time to escape from the First Order during the Battle of Crait. The Screenrant article also states that the effects of Luke’s sacrifice will be felt at the beginning of “The Path of the Lightsaber.”

A cover of the manga was also shown in the article, with the main character, Nioka, wielding the yellow-bladed High Republic lightsaber. The cover also has a collage of characters, including a soldier running from First Order stormtroopers, several starships, a probe droid, and two unknown characters.

According to Screenrant, more information about “Star Wars: Path of the Lightsaber” will be released at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Japan.
