NEW ORLEANS— The attacker was Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old Army veteran from Texas, who posted videos online hours before the attack expressing support for ISIS.

Jabbar drove a rented pickup truck onto the sidewalk on Bourbon Street, hitting a crowd of New Year’s celebrators. After the crash, he got out with an assault rifle and shot at the officers who responded.

The attack resulted in at least 15 deaths and numerous injuries. Sixteen people remain hospitalized, with eight in intensive care.

Authorities first thought there could be accomplices but later confirmed Jabbar acted alone. They are looking into his online activities and possible links to terrorist groups.

Surveillance footage showed Jabbar placing two explosives in the area, but only one worked. Security bollards were being replaced and were not in place at that time.

The investigation is ongoing to ensure there are no further threats.
