Will Reeve, the son of Christopher Reeve (and a reporter in his own right as an ABC News and “Good Morning America” correspondent), announced Wednesday on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” that the documentary based on his father’s life will be getting a worldwide release beginning October 11, 2024.
“Today is September 25th.” He said. “It would have been my dad’s 72nd birthday. We’ve had some special screenings today in theaters. It’s been so well received by critics and audiences that I’m thrilled to announce that “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” will be getting a wide release nationwide and worldwide on October 11th. So just hang tight for that. It’s going to be 20 years plus one day since he passed away. It’s a nice little piece of symmetry. It’s a story worth seeing and celebrating.”
Christopher Reeve, best known for his role as Superman in four films from 1978-1987, passed away on October 10, 2004, from an aggressive infection nine years after the tragic horse-riding accident that left him paralyzed below the neck. He and his wife Dana founded the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, which is now championed by all three of Reeve’s children.
“Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story,” directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival on January 19, 2024, to wide acclaim. Warner Bros. Discovery, DC Studios, HBO Documentary Films, and CNN later acquired it. It was shown in a limited release in the U.S., where it achieved a perfect 100% score from both critics and audiences on RottenTomatoes.com.
It will be released by the streaming service Max at a later date.
