Saint Paul reopens water street after flooding

1 min read

SAINT PAUL— The City of Saint Paul will reopen Water Street/Lilydale Road from the Lilydale Pool and Yacht Club to the Saint Paul Marina to all vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic on Wednesday, July 31, after 7 p.m.

Saint Paul Public Works and Parks and Recreation crews have cleared flood debris and inspected the road to determine that it’s safe to reopen all traffic. Some ongoing repair and restoration work will be done on the riverbank and park trails. Please use caution while on park trails.

Water Street was closed on June 5 due to summer flooding of the Mississippi River. According to the National Weather Service, the Mississippi River water levels in Saint Paul crested at 20.17 feet on June 29, the eighth-highest recorded flood for Saint Paul.

Water Street, located on the south side of the Mississippi River and running through parkland, is the first roadway to flood when the river water levels reach a minor flood stage of 14 feet.
