The Belmont Stakes at Saratoga is set with a confirmed field of 10 horses. The post positions will be determined on Monday evening.
Trainer Kenny McPeek has decided to run Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan and continue with Brian Hernandez Jr. as his jockey. Mystik Dan, a colt sired by Goldencents, finished second in the Preakness, just 2-1/4 lengths behind the winner Seize the Grey, who will also be in the Belmont field.
The field breakdown
The field for the Belmont Stakes includes several notable contenders. Seize the Grey, the Preakness winner, is set to race with Jaime Torres as his jockey. Torres also guided him to victory in the Pat Day Mile (G2). Chad Brown is bringing in Sierra Leone, who previously won the Grade 1 Blue Grass and was the runner-up in the Kentucky Derby.
Additional entries from the Kentucky Derby include Resilience, who finished sixth; Honor Marie, who came in eighth; Dornoch, who placed tenth. Kentucky Derby-favorite Fierceness, who was expected to enter the Belmont Stakes, will not run. The top three finishers in the Peter Pan (G3) also join the lineup. Antiquarian, the Peter Pan winner, is one of three horses entered by trainer Todd Pletcher, and John Velazquez will be riding him, just as he did in the Peter Pan.
Another noteworthy Pletcher entry is Mindframe, who hasn’t run in a graded stakes race yet but has shown promise by winning his debut at Gulfstream and an optional claiming allowance on the Kentucky Derby undercard. Irad Ortiz Jr., who was aboard for both of these victories, will ride him again on Saturday. With such a competitive field, it’s an exciting time to bet on Belmont Stakes with FanDuel.
