Superman’s 1938 debut title “Action Comics” no. 1 shattered records recently when it was sold at auction for over $6 million.
“Action Comics” no. 1, which first introduced Superman / Clark Kent and Lois Lane to the world is considered one of the rarest and most valuable comics on the Planet.
The comic book originally sold for 10 cents in 1938, which equates to about $2.20 in 2024.
The book, from creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, is arguably the most important in superhero comic book and American fiction history. It sparked the dawn of a pop culture genre that has generated billions of dollars.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the copy sold on Thursday at a grade of 8.5 out of 10, meaning it’s in excellent condition for a comic of its age. Only two other unrestored versions have ever graded higher.
It is speculated that only 100 original copies of “Action Comics” no. 1 exist in the world.
