Writer-director for the upcoming Superman movie, once known as “Superman: Legacy,” and DC Studios co-chief James Gunn celebrated Superman’s birthday with a first look at the famed “S” shield.
Gunn also renamed the film “Superman,” which, of course, is the title of the 1978 epic that brought in the superhero blockbuster genre starring Christopher Reeve as the titular character.

The new symbol is emblematic to the one designed by Alex Ross for the iconic 1996 “Kingdom Come” miniseries, which was again used for “Superman Returns” (2006) actor Brandon Routh’s suit for the 2019 “Crisis on Infinite Earths” The CW event.

David Corenswet stars as Clark Kent/Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan playing Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as classic villain Lex Luthor, among others. The film was previously titled “Superman: Legacy” and is slated for release in July 2025.
