A surprisingly reliable form of artificial intelligence has hit the global market and no, it’s not Brainiac. ChatGPT, an artificial-intelligence chatbot developed by OpenAI and launched in November 2022, told us a brief history of one of our favorite characters.

The controversial program is built on top of OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 families of large language models and has been fine-tuned using both supervised and reinforcement learning techniques, according to sources.

It first gained attention for its detailed responses and articulately well written answers. Multiple media outlets brought the program to international light sounding alarms for conservatives, educators, conspiracy theorists and more.

AI has been taking the digital world by storm since the beginning of the COVID pandemic. Art, scripts, music and more all have been manufactured by similar programs and ChatGPT has set a new precedent. Many warn of the moral and ethical implications programs like this can garner, especially with the quickly evolving landscape of intelligence collected on a daily basis.

Many are enjoying such programs while others are worried for what it means for humanity, especially if ChatGPT AI, along with other programs similar to it, remain unregulated.

Educators also worry about schools being unprepared to deal with technology such as this, which could tempt students to not complete their own homework assignments like essays and research papers.

‘Can you write an essay on Lois Lane?’

I asked the program to write an essay on my all time favorite fictional character, Lois Lane, in an effort to learn more about the program. I did not edit or change anything the program wrote. This is what it said:

Lois Lane is a well-known character in the Superman universe, and she is often portrayed as a determined and tenacious investigative journalist. Over the years, Lois has become an iconic figure in popular culture, and her character has inspired countless people.

Lois Lane was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the same creators of Superman, and she first appeared in Action Comics #1 in 1938. From the beginning, Lois was portrayed as a reporter who was determined to uncover the truth, no matter the cost. She was fearless in her pursuit of a story, and her sharp wit and intelligence often helped her get the scoop on other journalists.

One of the most notable aspects of Lois Lane’s character is her relationship with Superman. Lois is often depicted as being in love with Superman, but oblivious to the fact that he is actually Clark Kent, her mild-mannered colleague at the Daily Planet. This dynamic has led to countless stories over the years, as Lois has tried to uncover Superman’s true identity.

Despite her love for Superman, Lois is also fiercely independent and determined to succeed on her own merits. She has won numerous awards for her journalism, and she is respected by her colleagues and peers for her talent and dedication.

Lois Lane’s character has evolved over the years, with different writers and artists bringing their own unique perspectives to the character. However, certain core elements of her character have remained constant, such as her determination to uncover the truth and her love for Superman.

In addition to her role in the Superman universe, Lois Lane has also been an inspiration to many real-life journalists. Her dedication to her craft and her willingness to stand up for what she believes in have made her a role model for countless people who aspire to a career in journalism.

In conclusion, Lois Lane is a beloved and iconic character in the Superman universe. Her determination, independence, and intelligence have made her a role model for many people, both within and outside of the world of comics. Whether she is uncovering the truth about a corrupt politician or trying to figure out the true identity of Superman, Lois Lane is a force to be reckoned with, and her legacy will continue to inspire people for years to come.
