Passing the Torch

A Farewell to Our Readers

Many mysteries solved, meteor stories written and memories made here.

Dearest reader: It is bittersweet to say good-bye.

We know you have put up with a lot. From our controversial reporting to our toeing of the line between a personal online journal and a real honest-to-goodness piece of journalism, we appreciate you for sticking with us.

We thank you for coming back after we burnt down four years ago and for staying on when principal Kwan suspended yours truly for publishing theories about the meteor rocks. We especially want to thank those of you who came back after we closed down for redesign this year.

We hope that those of you who found us in search of the Truth are happy that you did. We hope you realize how much your opinions (in letter form and in your postings) helped shape the way this ship has sailed. You were read. You did have a say. We thank you for this.

The faithful readers of this online periodical and its sister paper, The Smallville Ledger, and the countless offshoots worldwide make up one of the strongest online audiences the short history of this medium has ever known. Our small staff and contributors are proud of this. We hope you are too.

It’s a cliché — but it really is about the journey and not the destination. We enjoyed every moment of this journey with you. No matter where it takes us next, we will always have you, our readers, in our hearts. Thank you to my staff. Try your best to decipher some of the aliases used. Many who have cut their teeth here have already gone on to much, much more prodigious endeavors.

Next week, we will publish the “22 Things I Learned This Year.” That will conclude all publishing for the online Torch by this team. Who knows where it will all go from here? All I know is that we thank you for your participation. It has been a great pleasure to serve with you.
