Katie Leibel
Katie Leibel is an award-winning communications and journalism professional, author, and active community member based in Minnesota. Her writing has been published in the Mankato Free Press, Quad Community Press, and other regional publications.
Her work has received recognition from the College Better Newspaper Contest, where she earned Third Place for Government/Public Affairs Reporting in 2017. She also received an Award of Merit in the 2016 White Bear Center for the Arts Write Now Contest for her short story, Will Someone Help Me Find My Glasses?
Katie has a strong background in leadership, service, and academic achievement. During college, she received scholarships for community involvement as well as academics, and she was honored with the Rising Star Leadership Award, presented annually to a first-year student who demonstrates exceptional leadership potential. She also co-authored a scholarly book chapter examining the role of gender in internet culture as an undergraduate research project.
Katie graduated college in just two and a half years with degrees in Mass Media and Spanish. At age 22, she purchased her first home and worked alongside her father to renovate much of the property.
An active volunteer, Katie has served with the Vadnais Heights Food Program and assisted with wildlife rehabilitation through the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Minnesota. She is also passionate about animal rescue and shares her home with several rescued pets, including a formerly neglected pit bull, a French bulldog with mobility challenges, and a senior cat.
When she isn't writing, Katie enjoys painting, baking, and DIY projects.
