Lois Lane is a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter at the Daily Planet. The daughter of General Sam Lane, she grew up learning hand-to-hand combat and survival techniques. After being hired by Perry White at the Daily Planet, Lois coined the name "Superman" and, because of incisive reporting on the Super Hero's incredible adventures, her career is forever linked to the Man of Steel. She remains one of Superman's strongest allies.

Minneapolis leaders travel to Finland for business, tourism and government initiatives

MINNEAPOLIS— Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey will join arts, tourism and business leaders in Kuopio and Helsinki, Finland, for a four-day trip departing on Sept. 4. The timing of the trip coincides with the 50th anniversary celebration of the sister city relationship between Minneapolis and Kuopio. The 50thanniversary will be recognized on Sept. 7 with a classical concert and reception at Kuopio City Hall. 

Grants awarded to 12 artist-led community well-being projects

The City of Minneapolis is investing in creative healing for the community. The Arts & Cultural Affairs Department has awarded 12 Creative Response Fund grants for artist-led projects. These projects will focus on Minneapolis communities directly affected by trauma from the pandemic and the murder of George Floyd.

Northern Minnesota hit with another air quality alert due to Canadian wildfires

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) has issued an air quality alert for northern Minnesota. The alert takes effect noon on Monday, July 31 and runs until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 1. The affected area includes Bemidji, International Falls, Two Harbors, Hibbing, Ely, Duluth, Roseau, and the tribal nations of Red Lake, Leech Lake, Grand Portage, and Fond du Lac.

Met Council approves grants for job creation, housing, economic development

The Metropolitan Council awarded nearly $3.4 million in Livable Communities grants in June and July, contributing to economic opportunity, redevelopment, and job creation in the seven-county metro area.

Saint Paul City Council votes 6-1 to put sales tax question on November ballot

SAINT PAUL— Today, the Saint Paul City Council voted 6-1 to place the city’s sales tax proposal on the 2023 general election municipal ballot. Improvements to Saint Paul roads and parks are estimated to cost $1 billion over 20 years. To secure funding for estimated costs, the City of Saint Paul is proposing a one-percent increase in the local sales tax.

‘My Adventures with Superman’ premieres July 6 on Adult Swim

“My Adventures with Superman,” the newest animated series from Warner Bros. Animation and DC, is set to take flight Thursday, July 6 at midnight on Adult Swim and next day on Max. The official trailer and key art showcasing Jack Quaid as the voice of Clark Kent, Alice Lee as the voice of Lois Lane, and Ishmel Sahid as the voice of Jimmy Olsen also debuted today.

MINNEAPOLIS— Weekend closures involving a block of First Avenue North begin this Friday and will last through October. These closures are for Warehouse District Live: an enhanced public space for nightlife in downtown Minneapolis Friday and Saturday nights.
