On Thursday morning, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris addressed the nation, members of Congress held a moment of silence on the House floor and lawmakers shared their experiences to mark the one-year anniversary of the Capitol insurrection.

On Jan. 6, 2021, a pro-Trump mob stormed the US Capitol and disrupted the joint session of Congress that was assembled to officially count the electoral votes, in hopes of overturning the lawful results of the 2020 US presidential election.

Former president Donald Trump cancelled a news conference he planned for Thursday at his Florida resort Mar-a-Lago, saying “he would address many of the same topics at a rally in Arizona on January 15 instead.”
