Families mourn after Australian police confirm five children have died in jumping castle tragedy

Families and community members are mourning after local police said the death toll from the tragic event on Thursday has risen to five while several other children remained in hospital in a critical condition.

Authorities were called to the scene after the children fell from a jumping castle that was blown into the air at a primary school in Devonport.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said he had been in touch with State Premier Peter Gutwein and called the incident “unthinkably heartbreaking”. An investigation is ongoing.
