Celebrating International Women’s Day

1 min read

Today is International Women’s Day, and in admiring how far women have come since the oppressive age of misogyny, I want everyone to take a moment and appreciate how resilient and persistent women are. The society as we know it would not be if it wasn’t for women. They need to be appreciated. There is no way we would be where we are today without women.

Even in the modern day and age of “liberty and justice for all”, there is still huge amounts of discrimination and injustice shown to the female population. Hopefully, there will one day be perfect equality, and by observing International Women’s Day, people can help by making a change and provide the voice that women need.

When women were legally “granted” the right to vote in 1920 by the 19th Amendment, it brought on a completely different aspect of life. There was input from both genders now, and they knew what they were doing. The once oppressed gender was able to give their input on things. They were no longer treated inferior, although there was still large amounts of discrimination. However, even now, in 2019, where women are still often paid less, there is still a stigma around women that they can’t protect themselves. But women are independent and strong.

There isn’t a social norm as to what women should or shouldn’t do anymore. And that’s a great thing. If a women wants to become an astronaut, it’s possible. 40 years ago, something like that was unheard of. It takes so many different kind of women to keep our world running. Women deserve to be heard. Change continues on. Happy International Women’s Day.
